Athletic Bilbao coach Marcelino targets Granada win in Euro push

Athletic Bilbao coach Marcelino admits they must play to win against Granada.

Both sides have a lot at stake. Los Rojiblancos need three points to keep their bid for European football on track, while Granada are battling to keep their place in the top flight.

“We have to win. We must be incisive and go for the win from the start. These are three points that would leave us closer to European qualification," Marcelino said at a pre-match press conference on Monday afternoon.

“We're not feeling the pressure. We've competed very well in the last few matches. And even when we haven't won, we've been in a position to win.

“Getting into Europe is a great motivation for us because we know how difficult it is. Look at the teams who us there with us. At this stage of the competition, to be this close to achieving that is extremely exciting."

Granada, who are 17th in the LaLiga Santander table, have seen an upturn in results since former Lion Aitor Karanka took over, and are coming into the match off the back of a stunning 2-6 victory over relegation rivals RCD Mallorca.

“That win was definitely a huge morale boost for them," Marcelino said. “But every match is different and we're also in a good form at the moment.

“We both have a lot riding on the game. We'll try to make sure the match goes in our favour. It's important we keep a clean sheet. If that happens, I think we'll have a good chance of winning. We're going to try and get a third clean sheet in a row, because that would provide the basis to pick up a victory."
