Atalanta midfielder Gomez on Valencia thrashing: We should've hit more than four

Atalanta midfielder Papu Gomez felt they could've beaten Valencia by more for their 4-1 Champions League rout.

La Dea jumped to a 4-0 lead with Hans Hateboer's brace, Josip Ilicic and Remo Freuler individual efforts. A Denis Cheryshev away goal leaves some faint hope for Los Che ahead of the round 16 second-leg.

“We knew where to hurt them and how to play this game, we'd prepared well, it was not dissimilar to the one against Roma," Papu told Sky Sport Italia.

“With the situations we had, we could've scored more, but it was a wonderful night. To be honest, I didn't expect all these people to be here from Bergamo, it's fantastic, unique and will remain with us for all our lives.

“Perhaps at times the team exaggerates in wanting to play the ball and takes a few too many risks, so we really could've done without conceding that away goal."
