Atalanta coach Gasperini on defeat of Young Boys: Fans' enthusiasm helped us

Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini was delighted with their 1-0 Champions League defeat of Young Boys Berne.

Matteo Pessina struck the only goal of the game on the night.

"We hadn't yet managed a win in Bergamo this season, so it was a wonderful evening with enthusiasm from the fans," Gasperini told Sky Italia.

“We won a difficult game where the team played with determination, sharpness and focus, winning deservedly.

“The draw with Villarreal and tonight's victory are the results we were hoping for. Qualification starts now with the two games against Manchester United. We have to seek points everywhere, as it's a very balanced group.

“Those two matches will be an important crossroads for the group and we hope to give ourselves an advantage going into the final games. Hopefully Manchester United and Villarreal will draw today."

He added: “Young Boys are dangerous on the counter and accustomed to playing on an artificial pitch, which means a high tempo. That's why we had to be very careful not to allow gaps for them to counter and were confident we'd find the breakthrough sooner or later."
