Atalanta captain Papu Gomez was delighted with their Champions League rout of FC Midtjylland.

Atalanta kicked off their campaign with a 4-0 win.

“The team has a very different level of experience and above all of self-belief compared to last season," Gomez told Sky Sport Italia.

“We also know that anything can happen in the group stage and we have to keep pushing to the last game. If we win the next with Ajax, we'll be in a good position and hope to go into the next round."

He added: "Atalanta aren't just gaining experience in this competition, because practically all of my teammates in the side are internationals, so these are all matches that help us to grow."
