While Richards may have been unceremoniously dumped by Manchester City, there was no shortage of clubs interested in his services this summer and Villa were the team that eventually managed to win the race to sign the defender.
Former City winger Sinclair is certainly happy at the arrival of former teammate Richards at Villa Park and has stated his belief that the 27-year old will prove to be a top quality signing for Villa.
Sinclair told Aston Villa's official website: "Micah is a great signing. I think it's great we have added a player like Micah with his experience, talent and personality.
"First and foremost, he's a very, very good defender. When he's at his best, he's top quality. He's showed that during his time at Man City.
"He has got the full package - everything you need as a defender. He has pace, power and a good reading of the game. He defends so well. He's got that winning mentality too.
"He's a leader. He will be a big voice in the dressing room. He will put his opinion across to the lads in the dressing room and when he's out on the pitch he will guide players."
