Aston Villa's Sherwood rues QPR draw as underdone back four step up

Tim Sherwood was complimentary of his defenders despite Aston Villa conceding three goals in their 3-3 draw with QPR on Tuesday night.

The likes of Ron Vlaar, Ciaran Clark, Kieran Richardson and Leandro Bacuna have not seen much game time together recently because of various injuries but tried valiantly at Villa Park in a relegation showdown.

Sherwood knows the performance from his side was not good enough but could only praise his men for toiling so hard, especially those playing under duress due to the injury problems at the club.

"I couldn't fault the performance," he said on Sky Sports. "There was fatigue in the second half and we dropped off, but you expect that.

"That back four trained for four days. They've been out for six weeks so it's a big ask.

"Unfortunately we've got an injury crisis at this club and we're having to patch players up so because they had to drop deep it gave our midfield a lot to do, but they seemed to take every chance they had and that's the way it's going for us.

"Overall, on the balance of play, it was a disappointing result."
