Aston Villa are assessing Inter Milan superstar Stefan de Vrij as a possible summer signing.

Manager Steven Gerrard has not hidden his desire to build a top team that can challenge for European places in the Premier League.

According to Football Insider, 30-year-old De Vrij is someone Villa want to secure to improve their back-line.

The Dutchman is the type of signing Villa want to make, following the January loan arrival of Philippe Coutinho from Barcelona.

De Vrij has a contract at Inter until 2023, and was valued at roughly £40 million in January.
