Aston Villa midfielder McGinn: English media reckon gap between Scotland and England humongous

Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn insists the gap between Scotland and England isn't as wide as claimed.

McGinn has warned England they will still be in for a shock when Scotland roll into Wembley tomorrow night.

“Quite a few of our team compete against the majority of these England guys week in, week out and we seem to hold our own," he said. “So we need to pass the message on to the guys that are based in Scotland that we can compete.

“When I looked at the record between Scotland and England, I was surprised how tight the results were. The English media would have you believe the gap is humongous, so it's up to us to prove that's not the case.

“Scotland will always be the underdogs against England because we've got a population of five million and they've got 55 million and world-class superstars all through their squad.

Ben Chilwell and Jadon Sancho didn't even get on their bench the other day. Sancho could end up at Manchester United and Chilwell has just won the Champions League with Chelsea.

“But we've got a few wee superstars of our own so, hopefully, being underdogs will suit us and we can cause them problems."
