Aston Villa are very eager to secure Liverpool defender Joe Gomez this summer.

The English centre-half is out of favour at the Reds, as he is fourth-choice in the pecking order under manager Jurgen Klopp.

The 25-year-old is wanted by Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard at Villa.

According to the Daily Star, Gerrard is hoping that he can convince Gomez to make the move to earn regular first-team football.

The England defender may see it as a last chance to secure a spot in his nation's squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup this winter.

Gomez is unlikely to play very many games for Liverpool if everyone is fit this coming season.
