Aston Villa manager Dean Smith: Four weeks of penalty practice

Aston Villa manager Dean Smith had his players practising penalties for four weeks prior to Tuesday night's win over West Bromwich Albion.

The Villains moved into the Championship play-off final after a 4-2 shootout over Albion, who tied the aggregate score thanks to Craig Dawson.

Speaking after the game, Smith spoke of the lengths he went to make sure his players were prepared for such an event.

“To be honest, we've worked very hard; from the day we knew we were in the play-offs, we started working on penalties," the Villa manager told Sky Sports.

"We've been doing this for four weeks: we had a plan of who would take them, and the goalkeeping coach works very hard with Jed Steer in terms of which way the opposition would go."
