Aston Villa's surprise last-ditch effort to lure AS Roma forward Gervinho back to the Premier League has fallen through.

Italian publication Corriere dello Sport is reporting Villa tabled a £10million offer for the former Arsenal player, which fell short of Roma's asking price.

Villa boss Tim Sherwood is reportedly eager to bring the Ivory Coast international to Villa Park and may try again during the January transfer window.
