Aston Villa have confirmed that Jordan Amavi will be sidelined for the rest of the Premier League season.
The 21-year-old left-back has been diagnosed with a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament on his right knee having suffered the injury while playing for the France U21 side on Thursday.
Amavi, who joined Villa from Nice in the summer, had been his club's most impressive performer in the 12 matches of the campaign and will be sorely missed as the West Midlands club strive to climb off the bottom of the table.
“Aston Villa can confirm defender Jordan Amavi has been ruled out for the rest of the 2015-16 Premier League season with a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee," read a club statement.
“Everyone at the club wishes Jordan a speedy recovery and we look forward to seeing him back on a football pitch as soon as possible."
Amavi added the following message on Twitter:
The fall is not a failure. Failure is to stay where we fell ! Thank you for your messages #23 #NeverGiveUp#StayStrong#FightLikeLion
