Aston Villa legend Stiliyan Petrov has revealed that the Midlands club is in talks to sign Dimitar Berbatov.

Reports recently suggested that Villa were close to landing the former Tottenham and Manchester United striker and now Tim Sherwood's assistant has revealed that talks are ongoing to sign his fellow Bulgarian.

"There were talks but I can't reveal you anything at the moment," Petrov replied reporters in the Bulgarian capital Sofia when he was asked if he was aware of Berbatov's move to Aston Villa.

"It's a nervy period for Berbatov, his agent and Villa and they'll be the first to announce if there's something…"

Berbatov, Bulgaria's top goal scorer, is a free agent after leaving Monaco at the end of last season.
