Heaton was one of 12 new summer arrivals as boss Dean Smith splashed out £134million on the Prem new-boys, who currently lie third-bottom in the table.
But Heaton is adamant there are no similarities between Villa and Fulham, who spent more than £100m on 12 players a year earlier — and got relegated.
He told The Sun: “It's not fair to draw any comparison to other promoted clubs.
“Signing 12 players wasn't a true reflection of the situation. We added that number because we had lots of players out of contract or others were sold so we needed replacements.
“The first year in the Premier League is always challenging but I've been impressed with the quality of the squad and the togetherness. The team have incredible ability.
“There's been plenty of positives but it's the fine details we need to tighten up on.
“There isn't a survival mentality at this club. Of course, the priority in the first year is staying up but we don't want to put a limit on what we can achieve."
