Aston Villa goalkeeper Jed Steer has handed manager Dean Smith a new injury setback.

Steer is set for two months on the sidelines after suffering a calf injury in their defeat against Wolves on Sunday.

His injury is not as bad as first feared, but scans on Monday revealed that the keeper could be out of action until the new year.

The 27-year-old was making his first Premier League appearance of the season after first-choice 'keeper Tom Heaton was injured in training on Saturday.
