Aston Villa fullback Cash officially switches allegiance to Poland

Matty Cash has officially transferred international allegiance from England to Poland.

The Aston Villa defender qualifies through his mother's side of the family.

He had held talks with the Polish FA and his citizenship request was officially granted on Tuesday.

Writing in Polish on his Twitter account, Cash said: 'This is a very important day for me and my family. My application for Polish citizenship has been approved by the Polish authorities

'I would like to thank the president, my family and other people who helped me in this. Time for new challenges, I will do my best for this country.

'It is an honour and an extremely important moment for me and my family. I'll do my best on the pitch and I can't wait to put on a shirt with an eagle on the chest. Let's fight for Poland."

Polish FA chief Cezary Kulesza thanked President Andrzej Duda and added: "We are glad that the player will soon be at the disposal of [Poland boss] Paulo Sousa."
