Aston Villa defender Mings: I'm fighting boredom

Aston Villa defender Tyrone Mings admits he's struggling mentally with the UK's coronavirus lockdown.

Mings has been following a personal fitness programme at his home with the club yet to return to group training at their Bodymoor Heath base.

Mings revealed he had been training at his local pitch and said: "It's tough mentally, I'm not going to lie. You don't ever get this amount of time [off].

"It's a strange time. It's time you're never going to get again as footballers. You'll never get a six, seven or eight-week break in season again.

"We've got training plans, every club is different. People are doing Zoom calls as a team. I've got a fitness plan, a structure of the week [to decide which] days to do certain runs.

"I've got a local football pitch by me so I just do it on there. It's not ideal but it's better than road running.

"I'm just banging the gym out of boredom. I've got a weight plan. A big part of my training is just maintaining strength, I don't want to put too much weight on because I don't want to be heavy when I go back."
