Aston Villa defender Matt Targett insists Brighton point deserved

Aston Villa defender Matt Targett says they deserved their 1-1 draw with Brighton.

Jack Grealish smashed home his ninth goal of the season to ensure it finished honours even on the south coast, cancelling out Leandro Trossard's first-half effort.

And Targett, who returned from a four-match injury lay-off at the Amex Stadium, is keen to see Villa carry that feel-good factor into next week.

“I think it was a fair result," he said, speaking post-match.

“First half I don't think we were good enough on the ball to cause any problems for them. We just had one chance for Jack when he broke through.

“Second half we all raised our game, we were more aggressive, we were fighting for every ball, which was much better.

“And we got our equaliser, which was well deserved."

He added: “We spoke at half-time, you either fold or you pick yourselves up and go out there and prove why you want to stay in the Premier League.

“When you come to teams like this who are down there with you, you can't let them escape from you, you have to keep them in sight. We did that here.

“Of course we would have liked three points but we'll take the draw and go again on Tuesday night at Villa Park."
