Aston Villa chief Purslow confirms transfer plans for new boss Gerrard

Aston Villa chief executive Christian Purslow believes there will be one or two transfer moves made in the winter.

The Birmingham-based club are looking to back recently installed manager Steven Gerrard in the market as he hopes to tweak his squad.

Villa did secure Emi Buendia, Ashley Young, Axel Tuanzebe, Danny Ings, and Leon Bailey in the summer, having sold Jack Grealish to Manchester City.

"Johan's [Lange, sporting director] team are constantly reviewing both our playing squad and the market for talent, everybody knows that January is not a month in the market which is particularly easy to navigate," Purslow told Villa TV.

"In the ordinary course of business, I wouldn't have expected us to be active at all this January.

"But if there is one natural consequence of midseason managerial change it is that new managers often have slightly different systems, maybe slightly different biases in terms of profile of players that they're looking for.

"I think it's perfectly possible in the coming weeks, when Steven and Johan are working together, that Steven will want to make one or two adjustments and that might lead to one or two out and maybe one or two in, I don't know that, it's way too early to decide that."
