Aston Villa captain John McGinn has taken to social media to praise veteran Ashley Young.

The former Manchester United star is leaving Villa Park this summer on a free transfer.

With the 37-year-old out of contract, he is set for a new team where he may play regularly.

Speaking this week, Young said: "From the beginning to the end we dreamed and we achieved. I said coming back here we should be playing European Football and we have delivered.

"With the help of you amazing fans being with us week in week out next season you will have European Football, European Nights! Team Together, Squad Together, Staff Together, everyone has played their part.

"We will all enjoy this together, hopefully I'll be able to be part of those European Nights like I was in 2010. UTV."

McGinn wrote on Twitter: "Absolutely gutted to lose a top guy and a top player. Pleasure to have played with you."
