Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish has laughed off being substituted by manager Dean Smith for victory over Newcastle United.
Smith said after the game that the decision to sub Grealish off was because he was walking a disciplinary tightrope and to avoid any unnecessary injury
Grealish has laughed off the incident that caused a lot of reaction on social media.
“I can't really give him enough praise, the only negative I can give him is that he took me off the other week," Grealish said.
Laughing, Grealish added: "I was fuming I was, I was devastated.
“When my number went up I thought surely he's got the wrong number there."
Under Smith, Grealish has played more matches for him than any other coach in his career.
In 84 games he has scored 23 games and registered 27 assists.
"He's been excellent since he's come in," Grealish added. "I can't remember the first game, but he actually took me off as well in the Championship.
"But I got injured and I came back and he gave me the armband, and ever since then both of us haven't looked back. He's been excellent for me."
