Aston Villa boss Smith hits out at schedule after Wolves defeat

Aston Villa boss Dean Smith was left frustrated after defeat to Wolves.

Villa lost 1-0 on Saturday due to Leander Dendoncker's winner.

Smith lamented afterwards, "Very fine margins. We were the better team before the break, not many teams have created chances against us. We more than watched a top six team today but they managed to get a goal from the edge of the box out of nothing and we didn't convert the chances we had.

"It was OK but tough. There are not many teams who have got change out of Wolves. We started the game well, put good balls in from set pieces but our headers were probably not as good as they should have been. I thought today was about fatigue, crazy to play four games in 11 day and you will get fatigued doing that.

"Right from the start it is fine margins. I think we look a sound team, we are hard to beat and I am sure the teams we play will say that too but we just probably need a bit of quality in the final third.

"We need the break otherwise we will have a big injury list. The fixture list is crazy. Why this game couldn't have been tomorrow or Monday I don't know, to make it a bit more of a spectacle because it is hard without fans but even header when players are fatigued."
