Aston Villa boss Gerrard satisfied after victory over Norwich

Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard was satisfied after their 2-0 win against Norwich.

Villa clinched victory courtesy of goals from Ollie Watkins and Danny Ings at the end of each half, with a second successive clean sheet shutting out the Canaries at the other end.

Victory moved Villa on to 40 points and up to 13th in the Premier League table, three points off the top 10 with games in hand.

“The last run was tough, it's five clean sheets in nine now," he told VillaTV.

“We obviously stopped the losing run last week with a good solid defensive performance at Leicester, I thought we had the best chances as well.

“We've taken a bit of confidence and belief from that and managed to win the game 2-0 here with a clean sheet, so a positive win.

“I don't think it was a necessarily fantastic performance, we had to grind and stick in there at times.

“But it's all about the points now, it's all about moving away from 15th in the league, it moves us a couple of places up, with a game in hand to move even more.

“And we've got a tough game next week to look forward to."

Gerrard added: “There's different ways to win a football match.

“I thought at times we could have passed the ball better and showed a little bit more style, I also thought we had four or five chances in the first 20 minutes, we also had four or five in the second 20 minutes.

“I need the team to kill earlier and I felt if we would have got the second earlier then we would have run away with this game.

“I can't complain too much; a clean sheet, two goals, Danny Ings was outstanding, John McGinn, I saw a lot of positive performances, Ollie's taken his goal well.

“We've played better this season and haven't got results. We weren't at our best but I'm still pleased with the three points."
