Aston Villa boss Gerrard delighted after win at Burnley

Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard was delighted after their 3-1 win at Burnley.

An early goal from Danny Ings set the visiting Villans on their way before Emiliano Buendía and Ollie Watkins netted to leave Gerrard with three points to savour.

He said: “I thought we were outstanding across the board today.

“I thought we were better in every single department. We had to come here today and be strong, to a man.

“We knew that Burnley were in a good place after ten points out of 12, but today we made it about us.

“We showed that we had a more important purpose to take maximum points and move up the table, and the players have delivered."

Gerrard opted to make four changes from the team that beat Norwich City last weekend, recalling Buendía, Ings, Ezri Konsa and Douglas Luiz to the starting XI.

Each player justified their selection with strong displays, with Gerrard praising the collective effort.

“People are training well and people giving me tough decisions to make, which is the place I want to be in," he said.

“Young Emi was chomping at the bit today; he's had some really strong cameos and he's taken his chance to deliver today, so I'm really pleased with him.

Calum Chambers, we asked him to do a different role today in midfield and I thought he grew into the game and did well.

Danny Ings was ruthless in front of goal and Ollie Watkins continued to fire as well, so the front three were outstanding and they won us the game.

John McGinn got an assist, the two full-backs were outstanding and when you're happy with every single one of your players, it's a good place to be in."
