Aston Villa are planning a £5 million bid for Tottenham fullback Alan Hutton.

Villa boss Martin O'Neill is ready to make a cut-price bid for ex-Rangers defender Hutton this summer and bring him to Villa Park, says the Daily Star Sunday.

Hutton was signed for £9m by ill-fated Spurs boss Juande Ramos in January last year - but he will be made available by Harry Redknapp.

O'Neill knows the defender, 24, from his time in charge at Celtic.

He is preparing a bid shortly as he wants to provide competition at right-back for Luke Young.
