Assistant manager parts company with Grimsby

Grimsby have announced that assistant manager Brian Stein has left the club by mutual consent. Stein took over as number two to former boss Mike Newell following the departure of Stuart Watkiss, but new manager Neil Woods has opted to shake up his backroom staff in a bid to revive the club's fortunes.

Woods told the club's official website: "Brian has been excellent to work with but there will be a restructure of what's going on."

He added: "Ultimately, it hasn't been working and we need to build the football side of the club.

"We need to get the club out of the situation we are in short-term, while also building a club that won't fall back. That includes the way we train and prepare for games. You've always got to be prepared to learn."
