Mikel Arteta and Granit Xhaka both lauded Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey after his performance against Newcastle United on Monday.

The Ghanian was in full control of the midfield in his first start since returning from injury, with the Gunners running out 3-0 winners at the Emirates.

"I am really happy [with Partey]," Arteta said. "He got better and better as the game went on. He has a big influence and gave us things which were different from any other player. We have to protect him as he's not played that much."

Xhaka added on his midfield partner: "He is very important to our team. He brings aa lot of experience on a high level and he showed today how important he is for us and we our so happy."
