Arteta has discussed January transfer plans with Arsenal chiefs

Incoming manager Mikel Arteta has discussed January transfer plans with Arsenal chiefs.

The Daily Star says the 37-year-old is said to be in talks with his former club as he considers leaving his coaching role at Manchester City to replace Unai Emery in north London.

The former Gunners captain could pen a three-and-a-half year deal at the Emirates as he tries to find their former glory, but he might not be able to rely on incoming deals.

The club are not looking to make waves in the upcoming January transfer window after their spree in the summer, with £72million signing Nicolas Pepe underperforming so far.

The report adds that Arsenal chiefs see the next month as an opportunity to cut down on their current squad, with Mesut Ozil and Shkodran Mustafi both linked with moves away.
