Arteta: Beating Spurs is special but Arsenal good enough to win title

Departing Arsenal skipper Mikel Arteta has stated his belief that the Gunners are more than capable of winning the Premier League title.

Arsenal's 4-0 victory over Aston Villa during the final day of the Premier League campaign saw them leapfrog Tottenham Hotspur to second spot in the table and the fans have certainly revelled in finishing above their rivals once again.

Arteta, who played his final game for the club, opined after the game that it was important for Arsene Wenger's side to finish above Spurs but insists that the current crop of Gunners are good enough to win the Premier League title next season.

The midfielder told arsenal.com: "I think as the last day it is very special, and very good as I know how important it was for the fans to finish above Spurs.

"We are disappointed, because this group of players have the ability to win the Premier League.

"We have not managed to do it and I have to say sorry as captain, not to be able to lead this club to what we wanted. But at the same time, I know the guts of this club and people can be very honoured and grateful for what people do inside, because it can't get much better than that."
