Arshavin: I chose Arsenal over Tottenham offer

Andrey Arshavin has confirmed he rejected Tottenham Hotspur in favour of joining Arsenal.

The forward was courted by clubs across Europe after starring at Euro2008 and while playing for Zenit St. Petersburg.

And Arshavin has revealed there were offers from Newcastle and Spurs, before he signed for Arsenal in 2009.

He told 888Sport: "I heard nothing about any interest from Newcastle and that's why I never thought about that club.

"Regarding Tottenham my agent spoke a couple of times with them and they were interested in making an offer for me. But I was looking only for Arsenal at that moment."

Arshavin added that he feared the move to the Emirates would fall through, and claimed he will forever be a Gooner.

"I had fears in certain moments that day when I thought it was over and I would have to go back to Zenit.

"But finally I was lucky and we finished our conversations and I was happy that a decision was made so I could move to Arsenal.

"I used to watch Arsenal a lot but not so much now because my channel lost the rights to show Premier League football.

"But of course I know the squad and I wish all the best to the guys. And of course I am still a Gooner and I think I will always support that club."
