Arsenal to rescue Weigl from Borussia Dortmund bench

Arsenal are serious about signing Borussia Dortmund midfielder Julian Weigl.

The Gunners nabbed both Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Sokratis Papastathopoulos from the German side in 2018, and now look to strike again.

BILD says former scout of the Bundesliga side Sven Mislintat - now head of recruitment for Arsenal - is pushing for the move to sign Weigl.

Mislintat helped in the recruitment process of bringing the German international to Signal Iduna Park in 2015 from 1860 Munich.

The 23-year-old has fallen out of favour with boss Lucien Favre - appearing just three times in the top-flight this season.

However, it appears unlikely that Dortmund will sanction the sale in the winter transfer window as they push for a first league title since 2012.
