Arsenal Supporters Trust states European Super League means 'death' of club as sporting institution

The Arsenal Supporters Trust (AST) have said the European Super League will be "the death of Arsenal as a sporting institution".

The Gunners, Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester City, Tottenham, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, AC Milan, Inter Milan and Juventus have confirmed the decision to create a new European competition.

The news was delivered by the aforementioned clubs in a joint statement late on Sunday.

Part of the statement read: "We have joined 11 European clubs as founding members of a new midweek competition, the European Super League.

"There's lots more to do to bring the competition to life and we will continue to update our supporters as things progress."

In reaction to the news, AST quote-tweeted Arsenal's statement with: "The death of Arsenal as a sporting institution."
