Arsenal forward Danny Welbeck is ready to win his place in England's attack.

With Jamie Vardy retired from international football and boss Gareth Southgate planning to rest captain Harry Kane who lacks sharpness, Welbeck is poised for a start in a friendly with Switzerland.

"There were opportunities before Jamie retired and there's opportunities now," the Gunners' striker said.

"With England, you're always going to have to give it your best shot, do what you can in club football and then, when the opportunity is there, I'm going to take it."
