Arsenal's Vermaelen not giving up title belief

Thomas Vermaelen believes Arsenal still have the ability to achieve Premier League title glory.

The Gunners' premiership chances took a massive blow on Saturday when they lost 6-0 to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in manager Arsene Wenger's 1000th game in charge.

Arsenal fell to fourth spot and are now seven points behind league leaders Chelsea after losing to a top-three team for the third time away from home this season.

A 6-3 defeat at Manchester City on December 14 and a 5-1 loss to Liverpool last month has Arsenal with some catching up to do but Vermaelen still believes there is hope.

"Every game has its own story," the Belgian centre-half told TV Telenet.

"It's a pity that we haven't played well in the away games against the top teams, but there's nothing wrong with our mental strength.

"There are still eight games to go and in the Premier League anything is possible.

"All of the teams are strong and every team can beat another. We still have to believe in it."

Arsenal host 15th-placed Swansea City on Tuesday night before welcoming Man City to the Emirates Stadium on Saturday.
