Arsenal's van Persie, Man City's Mancini scoop monthly Premier League prizes

Arsenal captain Robin van Persie has been named the Premier League Player of the Month for October.

The Dutch striker had an outstanding month, scoring seven league goals to take his tally to 10, for which he also received an award as the first player of the season to do so.

van Persie was unaware of such an award as seen by his comments on Twitter this afternoon.

"First to reach 10 Premier League goals. Didn't know there existed a trophy for reaching 10 goals!," he posted.

"But I have to slice the trophy in bits because some assists from the boys were [insanely] good! Thanks again mates! Looking forward to tomorrow!"

van Persie joins Manchester City pair Edin Dzeko (August) and David Silva (September) as monthly winners of the award so far in the 2011/12 season.

Dzeko and Silva's boss, Roberto Mancini, has been named Manager of the Month as his league-leading side produced four straight wins, scoring 17 goals and conceding just three.

He joins Manchester United's Sir Alex Ferguson and Tottenham's Harry Redknapp as this season's winners to date.
