Arsenal's Giroud is second rate, Ozil needs class around him suggests Piers Morgan

Olivier Giroud is the subject of some negative press from long-time Arsenal fan Piers Morgan.

The British journalist and TV personality has been a season ticket holder of the north London club for a very long time and has seen plenty of players come and go.

One he believes should be released is French striker Giroud who has been described by Morgan as second-rate despite his 11 Premier League goals.

Morgan also went on to suggest that Mesut Ozil needs top-quality players around him to perform at his very best.

"Giroud is a second-tier striker," he said when acting as co-host on talkSPORT's 'Drivetime'.

"Mesut Ozil is used to having [Karim] Benzema and [Cristiano] Ronaldo in front of him. He currently has lesser players, excluding Alexis Sanchez.

"Giroud is scoring goals at the moment and playing quite well, and is a good striker, but he is nowhere near the level of a Ronaldo, a [Lionel] Messi, a [Luis] Suarez, a Neymar.

"Ozil, who is a thoroughbred racehorse, is playing in the Grand National, not the Derby, and he needs players around him who can play at the Derby level that suit his style of football."
