Arsenal were reportedly offered Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani, but were unwilling to meet the French club's £50million asking price for the Uruguayan international.
The Mirror is reporting Arsene Wenger had been in discussions with PSG in the final stages of the summer transfer window about signing Cavani, but baulked at the reigning Ligue 1 Champions' valuation of the 28-year-old.
It is understood Wenger was concerned with Cavani's lack of sell-on value, making him fearful the Gunners would eventually lose out on their investment.
