Arsenal midfielder Xhaka dreams of Basel return

Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka admits he dreams of one day returning to Basel.

The 28-year-old started his career with his hometown club before moving to Borussia Monchengladbach in 2012. His performances in Germany lead Arsenal to pay £35m for his services in 2016.

And Xhaka hopes his career can go full circle by returning to Swiss giants.

"Definitely," he replied when asked by Basellandschaftliche Zeitung if he'd like to play for Basel again.

"My career started here and there it is a goal, actually, my dream to return someday.

"That certainly won't be the case at 28, I'll be honest.

"It'll probably be more like Alex Frei, who's the best example of how to do it.

"He came back once he was in his thirties, but still performed and helped FCB win a few titles.

"Of course, the expectations are high when you come back again, but it is clearly a dream."
