Lucas Torreira's move to Boca Juniors looks in jeopardy.
The Uruguayan midfielder - who is currently on loan with Atletico Madrid - pleaded publicly for Arsenal to allow him to join Boca following the death of his mother.
Speaking to ESPN Argentina, Torreira said: "It's not a violent emotion, a crazy decision because of my mother. I have always said that I want to play for Boca.
"I'm dying to play for Boca and I will always say it. The night my mother died, one of the first to hear the news was my agent. I don't want to play in Europe anymore, I want to play for Boca."
However, El Intransigente reports Boca are not prepared to meet Arsenal's loan demands.
The Gunners want a loan fee of at least £860,000, but Argentine giants have said no.
Brazilian sides Flamengo and Gremio have also shown an interest in the 25-year-old.
