Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka fears away form could wreck late season push

Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka says there's no excuses for their dismal away form.

With a final-day trip to Burnley after Sunday's home date with Brighton - and the away leg of their Europa League semi-final against Valencia in between on Thursday – there is a danger those travel woes will once against destroy their hopes of a return to the Champions League.

Xhaka said: “It's so frustrating. Our home form is so good. If we'd won just one of those last three league games, we'd be in the top four. The same thing killed us last year [they won just four of 19 away games and finished 12 points off fourth place]. I just hope it won't kill us this time. We have to look forward."

Ahead of going to Brighton on Sunday, Xhaka continued: “It's difficult to explain why we don't take the same points away. We approach every game the same.

“It could be our mentality. Maybe we have to do things differently.

“All the teams in the Premier League play football, they can fight and they can run. Against Leicester last week, we didn't show these characteristics. We didn't have the team spirit we showed, for example, against Valencia.

“We have to change things fast. At this level the small differences, the small details are so important. We've played a lot of games in the last four weeks but fatigue is not an excuse."
