Arsenal manager Mikel Arterta says goalkeeper Mat Ryan deserved his spot in the line up against Fulham.

The Gunners had to battle back in the dying minutes of the game to secure a 1-1 draw at home against the Cottagers in the Premier League.

Ryan helped rescue the point for Arsenal, heading the ball during a late corner to teammate Granit Xhaka, whose shot was blocked but eventually tapped in by Eddie Nketiah.

Asked about Ryan post-game, Arteta said: "I picked him because he totally deserves to play, he trains like a beast, he's got the right attitude and he needed a game.

"It was a great header."
