Arsenal and Manchester United could miss out on the signing of Gabriel Maghalhaes from Lille.
The centre-back is a key target for the Premier League sides, as both look to improve their defensive units.
However, the Manchester Evening News claims Napoli are close to agreeing terms with the Brazilian.
A £22 million bid has reportedly been made for Maghalhaes.
He could be viewed as the club's Kalidou Koulibaly replacement, who is likely to join Manchester City or Chelsea.
But the English teams could still outbid Napoli for Gabriel, as Lille would be happy to generate a bidding war for the 22-year-old.
