In his column for The Sun, Wright wrote: "Our players would all agree they massively underachieved and their display was nowhere near good enough.
"They were booed off at the end and I can understand the travelling fans' frustrations, but some of the criticism that has followed since has been over the top.
"Are these back-biters so jealous of our players and their lifestyles that the only way they can get some revenge is by criticising them and branding them with the age-old accusations of being 'pampered' and 'overpaid?'
"Let me assure you, the last thing on the England players minds at the moment is what they are going to spend their money on when they get home.
"They will only be thinking about how they can beat Slovenia in tomorrow's final Group C clash that will decide our fate.
"And what they need now is our backing - not our condemnation."
