Arsenal icon Henry would love to see Barcelona's Puyol in MLS

New York Red Bulls striker Thierry Henry has welcomed the possibility of Carles Puyol making his way to Major League Soccer.

The 35-year old Spanish defender will leave the Catalan giants this summer after spending his entire professional career at Camp Nou.

Puyol has already been linked with MLS expansion franchise New York City FC due to the fact that former Barcelona director Ferran Soriano operates as the chief executive, stemming from his role as Manchester City CEO.

Although it is unclear where Puyol will continue his playing career, his former Barcelona teammate Henry would love to see him in North America.

"If he wants to come and play in the United States then he would be very welcome," the Arsenal great told Catalan daily Ara.

"Should he want to come it would be great. It would be good for the league because it is always good to have players like him.

"He is an intelligent person and I am sure that he knows what he wants to do."
