Former Arsenal defender Martin Keown says Martin Demichelis let down Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini last night. Demichelis fouled Lionel Messi to gift Barcelona a penalty and send them on their way to a 2-0 Champions League win.
Keown wrote in the Daily Mail: "Manuel Pellegrini put his trust in Martin Demichelis, but he was let down. Some managers seem to have their favourites who they pick even when nobody else sees it, and the Argentine looks like one of those.
"Demichelis tried to come out and meet the Barcelona attackers but he gave the ball away more than once and failed to stay in his defensive shape when he conceded the penalty.
"It was a situation that could have been avoided and a clear foul and red card for the Argentine."
