Arsenal have freed up an extra £45m from their wage bill after a huge summer clearout.
The London Evening Standard says Gunners boss Unai Emery has embarked on a dramatic overhaul of his squad, concluding for now with Henrikh Mkhitaryan's loan move to Roma on Monday.
Roma will pay a significant portion of Mkhitaryan's £180,000 a week wages and the player's exit was the 11th from the first team this summer.
Totalling a combined fee of around £65m, Laurent Koscielny, Alexi Iwobi, David Ospina, Carl Jenkinson, and Nacho Monreal left as Petr Cech, Aaron Ramsey and Danny Welbeck also departed following the expiration of their contracts.
In total, around £900,000 a week is understood to have been taken off the wage bill to bring a saving of close to £50m per year.
