Arsenal forward Theo Walcott and Newcastle United winger Andros Townsend have been put on standby by England manager Roy Hodgson to replace injured Danny Welbeck in his Euro 2016 squad.
The Guardian reports that Hodgson will soon make a final decision after learning the results of Welbeck's knee scan on Tuesday.
The 25-year-old striker sustained a cartilage strain during the 2-2 draw with Manchester City on Sunday and could be sidelined for up to six weeks.
Following the game, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger expressed his concern that Welbeck might have damaged his meniscus, an injury which would rule him out for a significantly longer period.
It is believed that teammate Walcott is in line to replace Welbeck while Magpies wide man Townsend, who has been in fine form under Rafa Benitez recently, is also a wildcard chance to make Hodgson's final 23 for the UEFA tournament to be held in France this summer.
