Globoesporte says the 17-year-old, who plays at right-back for Brazilian side Coritiba, has been receiving rave reviews, and it looks inevitable he will make the move to Europe sooner rather than later.
The likes of the Gunners and Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen have been rumoured to be showing an interest, with Coritiba valuing Couto at around £4.2m.
However Barcelona who have stolen a march in the race to sign the Brazilian U-17 international, with the La Liga giants said to be closing in on a deal to take the player to the Nou Camp.
Arsenal are yet to make any signings so far this month, but Mikel Arteta will be desperately hoping they can add at least one or two players before the window closes in just under two weeks' time.
