Dutch sources expect Arsenal to move for the Holland international in January.
It's suggested Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has Van der Wiel, Borussia Dortmund centre-half Neven Subotic and Schalke goalkeeper Manuel Neuer all on his shopping list for the winter market.
