Arsenal's deal for Ajax defender Thomas Vermaelen remains in place.

The Gunners have agreed a fee of £10 million with Ajax for the Belgium international.

Talk over the move has gone quiet in recent days, but Dutch sources say that is down to Vermaelen, who is currently away on holiday.

On Friday he will be back in Amsterdam to prepare for his move to London.

A representative of Vermaelen declared: "It's a question of when, not whether."
